
President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to creating sustainable economic opportunities in Northern Ghana, emphasizing the region’s potential as a food security and agro-industrial hub.
Speaking during his “Thank You Visit” to the Upper East Region on Thursday, March 20, 2025, the President outlined his vision for transforming livelihoods through targeted investments.
“By prioritizing targeted investments and ensuring accountability, we will create sustainable economic opportunities that transform livelihoods and reverse decades of marginalization in the northern part of Ghana”.
He highlighted the North’s strategic importance in Ghana’s agricultural and industrial transformation, citing its vast arable lands, favorable agricultural conditions, and emerging agribusiness ecosystem.
“The North holds immense potential to become a food security and agro-industrial hub for Ghana and the West African sub-region”.
President Mahama also stressed the need for inclusive development, calling for every region to contribute fully to national progress.
“It is necessary for us to unlock Ghana’s full economic potential by ensuring that every region contributes at its fullest capacity to national development”.
As part of his efforts to bridge the developmental gap, the President announced plans to revive stalled infrastructure projects in the Upper East Region.
“I’ve asked the Minister of Finance to fast-track efforts to unlock funds for stalled infrastructure projects in the Upper East Region”.
