Lucky Mensah reacts to Kuami Eugene’s Crown

The 2019 VGMA has caused several controversies within the music industry.

Weeks after Kuami Eugene was awarded Highlife Artiste of the year, some players of the music industry seem not to be excited about an outcome of the ceremony.

During the awards night, Highlife legend,Amakye Dede, crowned Lynx Entertainment signee, Kuami Eugene, as the ‘King Of Highlife’.

This action by the Highlife legend has caused a lot of confusion among the highlife musicians.

Ace highlife musician, Luck Mensah, has expressed his confusion about the crowning of Kuami Eugene as the Highlife King by Amakye Dede.

He stated that, he did know that Amakye Dede had been crown a ‘Highlife king’ for him to hand over the kingship to another.

Speaking in an interview with Foster Romanus on e.TV Ghana’s ‘The Late Nite Celebrity Show’, the ‘Old School’ hitmaker fumed saying ” Since Amakye Dede started music, I have not seen anyone being crowned as ‘King of Highlife’. I don’t know of Amakye Dede being crowned as ‘Highlife King’ for him to crown another person as his successor.

According to him, he believes that if people like Daddy Lumba, Oheneba Kissi and Amakye Dede were not crowned Highlife Kings during their era, then there was no need to crown Kwame Eugene.

“Since we started music in the time of Daddy Lumba, Oheneba Kissi and Amakye Dede himself, nobody has ever been crowned Highlife King at any music award”.

“What I heard was that it was at the just ended VGMA’s that Amakye Dede crowned him. As far as I am concerned, it is not the right thing but it has already been done”.

He, however, acknowledge Kuami Eugene’s talent saying “he is good no doubt about it, but I think they should have waited a while before crowning him a king”.

He, however, expressed his affection for Kuami Eugene’s music and the love he has for his hard work “but crowning him king of Highlife was just not in order. They should have waited a while before crowing him.
