Lower Axim Chief arrests 1 Chinese and two Ghanaian illegal miners

The Paramount Chief of Lower Axim Traditional Area, Awulae Attibrukusu III and members of the traditional Council have clamped down on Chinese and some Ghanaians mining illegally at Ewuku galamsey site in the Nzema-East Municipality of the Western Region.

The three persons arrested by the Chief include 1 Chinese and two Ghanaians.

According to the Chief, the operation of the illegal miners has caused harm to the land, water bodies and Agricultural resources in the area.

He also said, illegal mining does not cause harm in his traditional area alone but poses a threat to the overall well being of the country.

“If any of my sub-chiefs is involved in encouraging illegal mining, that Chief will be dethroned or suspended”

He called on government and traditional leaders to fight illegal mining in their jurisdiction and the nation at large.

The three individuals have been handed over to the Nzema-East Divisional Police Command for investigation.
