Local coaches must prove when given Black Stars job- Mohammed Polo

Hearts of Oak legend, Mohammed Polo, says local coaches must prove when given the opportunity to coach the senior national football team the Black Stars.

The last local coach to handle the national team, Charles Kwabla Akonnor was sacked last Monday following the Black Stars poor showing in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.

According to the former Ghana International, the failures of some local coaches have made Ghanaians not have faith in local coaches.

Speaking in an interview on Wamputu Sports with Odiasempa Kwame Oware on Happy 98.9FM, Mohammed Polo said, “If local coaches are given an opportunity they have to prove a point so that they can win the trust from the people”.

“It’s really disappointing. We know what Karim Zito did with the national U-20 side”.

He also urged the Ghana Football Association to make it known on the criteria for the selection of a Black Stars coach

“We must also know the criteria in the appointment of coaches for the national. It shouldn’t be based on favoritism”.
