Lawyers for the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, have filed a bail application at the Accra High Court.

The couple is currently in custody at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over allegations of diverting GH¢39.46 million meant for a state cyber-defense software deal into their private accounts.

Their legal representative, former Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea, submitted the bail application on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. This follows an earlier police inquiry bail set at GH¢120 million for Mr. Boahene and GH¢80 million for his wife, both with justification, which they have been unable to meet.

Mr. Atta Akyea has criticized the bail conditions imposed by the Attorney-General and EOCO, calling them “onerous” and a deliberate attempt to extend his clients’ detention beyond the 48-hour constitutional limit.

“The respondents, with a clear motive to incarcerate the applicants beyond the 48-hour period as spelt out by the constitution, have imposed burdensome and unreasonable conditions,” parts of the application read.

The lawyer also alleged that his clients’ right to legal representation had been violated, accusing EOCO Deputy Executive Director Raymond Archer of disregarding his efforts to engage with authorities on their behalf.

Meanwhile, the High Court is set to hear the bail application on Friday, March 28, 2025.
