Labour agitations tied to concerns over possible change in government - Labour Analyst

Labour analyst, Austin Gamey has attributed the rising public unrest and strikes by labour unions to concerns about a potential change in government.

According to him, these groups are eager to settle outstanding payments with the current administration to avoid complications that often arise with a new government.

He noted that due to the current economic challenges and huge government debt, there is fear among unions that a new administration may delay payments, as transitions typically involve a request for more time.

Mr. Gamey also highlighted the ongoing tensions with the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), emphasizing that the government’s inability to distinguish between its roles as both an employer and a governing body has worsened the situation.

He explained that while unions like CETAG have made sacrifices to continue working, the government’s failure to adhere to payment agreements has fueled further discontent.
