The 1996 A-Level year group of Labone Senior High School (LOSA) has handed over several items worth Ghs 65,000 to the school to mark the Association’s 25th anniversary.
Members of the Labone Old Student Association (LOSA), led their President, Mighty Gbeve, when presenting the items said: “On this day we want to give back to our Alma Mater because people built for us and it’s our turn to do same for others. In consultation with the school Administration and LOSA National Executives, we have completed the following projects at cost of Ghs 65, 000 which be handed over to the school.”
He enumerated the items which includes; a face-lift of the Girls’ dormitory. “Changing of doors and door frames, tiling floors and walls, provision of drying lines, 50 ceiling fans, two 10, 000litres water reservoirs, Rambo 1,000 polytanks for both girls and boys dormitories,” he revealed.
He expressed optimism, that students and management will give the needed care and maintenance to the facilities, and urged the entire student body to pursue their dreams diligently.
“I urge all students to study hard and pursue their dreams diligently. Remember that you came to the school as an individual and you will leave as an individual. All that matters is your academic results,” he admonished.
The President also thanked the founder of the association and the entire year group for contributing to the project.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank Richard Bluwey (Mystic) for bringing us together several years after leaving school. I can gladly say we have a total membership of 134. To my anyemime3 who contributed in diverse ways to ensure the successful completion of these projects, I appreciate you. A special appreciation for the Project Fundraising and Publicity committees for the good work done,” he stated
He finally thanked Luckzade for their donation towards the purchase of water reservoirs.
John Ntim Fordjour, Deputy Minister of Education on behalf of the Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutumn, congratulated the year group on their 25th anniversary celebrations.
“I bring you warm compliments from the Minister for Education, Hon. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum who could not be here due to equally pressing engagements.
Hon Chairman, I must affirm, that I am very excited to be part of the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the LOSA’96 A-Level Group which is on the theme: Harmonious Relationship with Old Students Association- A Critical Factor in The Provision of Quality Education in Ghana. I also believe that the members of LOSA ‘96’ deserve a higher commendation for attaining 25 years of forming a network of old students who pull resources together in order to support their alma- mata,” he said.
He also mentioned that, government alone cannot meet the demand for and supply of education, hence, the need for participation by other stakeholders like the Old Students Associations in management of secondary education.
“I strongly believe that it is never out of place for past students of Senior High Schools who were groomed by such institutions and are now in the position to support their alma mater to endeavor to so in a bid to complement government’s efforts at providing infrastructure in our senior High Schools,” he reiterated.
