The La Traditional Council is facing a temporary suspension starting September 26, 2024. The Ministry of Religious and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs have suspended its operations until further notice. According to Enoch Addo, Registrar of the House of Chiefs, this suspension is aimed at implementing measures to ensure the council runs smoothly.
The government has issued a directive for all institutions to cease interactions with individuals or groups claiming to represent the La Traditional Council. As a result, all Paramount Stool Land issues are also on hold pending the Council’s reopening or the enstoolment of a new La Paramount Chief, as stipulated in Section 45 of the Chieftaincy Act.
Additionally, the Registrar of the La Traditional Council has been instructed to transfer Council property to the Regional House for further directives.
This development aims to ensure the Council’s smooth operation and address any underlying issues. The suspension will give the Regional House and Ministry the space to make necessary adjustments and improvements.
