Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Randy Abbey, has revealed that Kwesi Appiah has not participated in any GFA Executive Council (ExCo) meeting since the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Appiah, who serves as the head coach of Sudan’s national team, was elected to the GFA’s ExCo last October. However, after Ghana and Sudan were placed in the same group for the AFCON 2025 qualifiers, Appiah appears to have distanced himself from the GFA meetings.
Speaking on Metro TV, Randy Abbey shared that Appiah’s absence from the meetings may be due to the potential conflict of interest. “My friend Kwesi Appiah hasn’t attended any ExCo meeting since the draw. I believe he’s excusing himself because he knows matters related to the game will be discussed. It’s quite an awkward situation”.
Appiah has been juggling his responsibilities with both Sudan and the GFA, but the AFCON draw seems to have created a complex situation for him within the Ghana football administration.
