Assistant coach of the Sudanese national team, Ignatius Osei Fosu, has revealed that James Kwasi Appiah’s first pledge to the people of Sudan was to qualify them to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to him, coach Kwasi Appiah at his unveiling meeting promised a World Cup qualification before opening up about their chances in the 2025 African Cup of Nations.
He said that there was no World Cup qualification clause in their contract but coach Kwasi Appiah promised them saying that he has a truck record of doing that.
“The day we went to sign the contract, it was a Monday and I remember clearly that there was nothing about the World Cup in the contract but Kwasi Appiah voluntarily said it.”
“Kwasi Appiah said he will qualify the team to the World Cup and everybody in the room was quiet. I asked him if he was only saying it for the moment but he said he meant everything he said because he has qualified a team to the World Cup before,” Ignatius Osei Fosu said.
Meanwhile Sudan are currently on top of their group for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifies with 6 points followed by Senegal.
