Chief of Kwabenya Musuuku in the Greater Accra Region, Nii Mensah Dza-Nyomo, has pleaded with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and his men to eradicate the menace of land guards in the Kwabenya locality.

Speaking in an interview on Happy FM’S Epa Hoa Daben, he stated: “The landguards are causing chaos in Kwabenya and a lot of people are losing their lives from that. We are appealing to the IGP and the police to come to our aid”.

According to Nii Mensah, the community has been petitioning the Police since 2012, to deal with one notorious land guard by name Theophilus Ankamah Aryee. He added that since they cannot put the law into their hands, they help others who take him before the law by testifying against this notorious land guard in court.

The phenomenon of land guards in Ghana has been existing even after many reforms in the land sector. Despite their obvious illegality, land guards are still in existence because of the high demand for them and the minimal arrest and punishment of these land guards.
