The Ghana Taekwondo Federation in collaboration with the Korean embassy organized it’s 9th Competition called “Korea Cup” at the Accra Sports Stadium from the 8th to 9th December 2017.
The main aim for this year’s competition is to build a national team and to rank the athletes.
The president of Ghana Taekwondo explained the reason why they didn’t invite foreign countries in this year’s edition.
He stated “we international didn’t any foreign country in this year’s competition because we wanted to use it to rank our athletes and build a very strong team for next Olympic games which will be held in Tokyo, Japan 2020”.
“If we had invited the foreign countries and for instance an athlete from Niger places 1st, an athlete from Nigeria places 2nd and a Ghanaian places 3rd, what will we tell our athletes, are they first in Ghana or what, this is the reason why we didn’t invite them. Togo and other neighbouring countries showed interest but we told them no”
The consultant for the Korean Embassy to Ghana , Dongik Joeng was at the ground to grace the event. He showered praises on Ghana Taekwondo Federation for their enormous effort to raise Taekwondo in Ghana.
He stated “i think Ghana stand a great future in taekwondo, the tacklings and the skills were excellent.
Ghana Taekwondo Federation is doing very well. I will also use this occasion to thank everybody for making this tournament a successful one”
