The Concerned Citizens of Komenda Traditional Area have notified the Ghana Police Service of a planned demonstration on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
In a statement issued on August 5, 2024, the group noted that their notification complies with Section 1, Clause 1 of the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491), which mandates informing the police at least five days before a public event.
The group anticipates around 2,000 participants from Komenda and surrounding areas.
According to them, the protest will start at 6:00 a.m. from Komenda Township and conclude at Komenda Junction.
The demonstrators aim to protest the government’s decision to lease the Komenda Sugar Factory to an Indian firm.
They demand the reversal of the lease agreement, asserting that the factory should process locally-grown sugarcane rather than importing raw sugar.
