Ko-Jo Cue reveals how his loss motivated the release of “Mama Yie” dance tune

Ghanaian Hip-Hop and Afro-Pop musician, Linford Kennedy Amankwa popularly known as Kojo Cue has disclosed that his inability to win an award with his hip-hop songs at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) motivated him to release the “Mama Yie” song which featured Ghanaian artiste Shaker.

He was speaking in an interview with Happy FM’s DJ Advicer on the Ayekoo After Drive Show.

According to him, he was disappointed that his hip-hop songs did not gain the recognition it deserved at the VGMA.
However, that was when he made the “Mama Yie” song with Shaker.

“‘Mama Yie’ was not a planned song. We were just having fun because hip-hop didn’t make us win an award at VGMA”, he said.

He furthered that this dance tune revealed how people are drawn to party songs and how party songs can bury an artiste’s name as people look out for the song rather than the artiste.

Kojo Cue, however, stated that winning an award is not the most important thing in an artiste’s career. According to him, if he had a program that could offer him GH₵20,000 on the same day as when an awards event was organized, he would ignore the awards event for the former.
