Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has banned gambling and betting among the students on campus with one year rustication as a sanction for any student found culpable.

Reliable information available to Ghana’s Hub For Pop Culture & Urban entertainment News – www.nydjlive.com, the decision was arrived at after an academic board meeting held last Thursday, May 2 to deliberate on several issues.

The decision to forbid students from engaging in such act is an attempt to restrict students from sports betting and regularize betting syndicates.

Our information further revealed that, the University or any of its organs henceforth shall not accept any donation or sponsorship from any betting company for any program on campus.

The University Information Technology Service (UITS) has hence been instructed to block all betting websites from the University’s WIFI accessible to all students.

According to the authorities of the nation’s premier technology institution, gambling has diverted attention of the students from hard work and outmost academic performance so taking this step will curb such challenges.

Meanwhile, authorities are yet to come out with an official release on the issue.
