Ghanaian Lawyer Nana Yaw Osei has commended Special Prosecutor-nominee Kissi Agyebeng for his honesty in stating that he cannot fight corruption in Ghana.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Kissi Agyebeng said, “I am not naive to assume that I’m coming to stop corruption in Ghana. God himself cannot acclaim to that but I will make it very costly to engage in.”

Reacting to the comments by the Special Prosecutor-nominee on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben Show, Lawyer Osei said that Kissi Agyebeng’s comments was very realistic considering that not even the government can end corruption in the country.
“It is not about inspiring confidence or not. It is about being realistic. How does he completely do away with corruption? Even the government cannot fight corruption, how much more him; a one person and his office? There is no way”.
The lawyer was, however, confident that when approved Kissi Agyebeng and his team can only work with the laws to reduce corruption and deter others from engaging in it.
“I would have been surprised if he said he could eliminate corruption. He spoke the truth. A whole government cannot do away with corruption. So, the fight is not for him alone”, he added.
The vetting of Kissi Agyebeng for the position of Special Prosecutor is currently ongoing.
Since the resignation of Martin Amidu in November 2020 as Special Prosecutor, Godfred Dame, the Attorney-General, nominated the law lecturer and private legal practitioner, Kissi Agyebeng as his replacement.
