Ken Ofori-Atta to take on new role as Presidential Advisor on economy

Ghana’s former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is poised to assume a significant role as a Senior Presidential Advisor to President Nana Akufo-Addo, focusing on all matters pertaining to the economy. This move comes in the wake of the ministerial shuffle that took place on February 14th.

Sources close to the development, have confirmed Ofori-Atta’s impending appointment. Additionally, a report from Asaase News suggests that Ofori-Atta will also serve as the President’s special envoy on international investment and capital markets.

Despite facing challenges during his tenure as finance minister, including calls for his dismissal from some members of Ghana’s parliament, Ofori-Atta emerged as the country’s longest-serving finance minister.

Criticisms over the state of the economy prompted 80 NPP MPs to demand his resignation on October 25, 2022, with similar calls reiterated by the NDC parliamentary caucus in February 2023.

President Akufo-Addo, however, rebuffed these calls for resignation, urging parliament to wait until discussions with the IMF concluded.
