Former Auditor of the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Awuni Akyireba has said that calls from staff at KATH for appointment of an internally experienced CEO are unnecessary.
According to him, their call is not eligible since the hospital has numerous directors and heads of departments with zero KATH system experience.
Speaking in an interview with Don Kwabena Prah on EPA Hoa Daben on Happy98.9 FM, he said the government has the right to bring a CEO from different terrains, especially from KUNST due to precedence.
“As to where the appointment will come from I can’t tell, but their point does not hold water. The point is that precedence shows that past CEO of the hospital is from KUNST,
KATH is a teaching hospital because of KUNST, without KUNST who would KATH be teaching to be called a Teaching hospital,” he stressed.
“Apart from the past CEO, Okyeni Agyei, current director of the administration has no KATH system experience. Director of Finance, Director of Nursing are not from the hospital, this is just directors level only, if we can bring in directors with no KATH experience, why can’t we bring in CEO from outside, especially KUNST,” he added.
He admonished that any attempt to separate KATH’s existence from KUNST lacks appreciation of the dynamics and organization of the system’s culture.
“if you say KUNST is not part of KATH, then you do not understand the dynamics and the organization culture of the system so I cannot support the call” he stressed.
He added that the appointment of KATH CEO is at the sole discretion of the president to consider an appointee who would help achieve government policies. “Is at the discretion of the president, he will look for someone who can help implement and achieve government policies as a choice” he added
“The consideration for appointing a KATH CEO should be competency, which the staff can only morally persuade and suggested the management to consider a competent staff but does not make it an entitlement that if it is not from us we are on strike
Oyeni Danso who just left was from within, what did he do? He used the hospital funds for COVID to buy cars and other personal project, which is on public records, so that call is not convinced for me.”
