President John Dramani Mahama has tasked the Ghana National Fire Service to install CCTV cameras at all vantage points in every market across the country.

Speaking in a meeting with traders at Kantamanto who lost their goods and monies to fire earlier this month, President Mahama assured them of government’s assistance and plans to restore the market.

“We are asking the national fire service where there are major markets to deploy their fire tenders close to the market in the night.

We are asking them to explore installing CCTV cameras at all vantage points of every market”.

According to him, his government is putting in place adequate measures to ensure that fire outbreaks do not happen again.

“One of the first things we need to do is to prevent these fire outbreaks from happening. In some cases it might be due to wiring and use of inferior materials, and in some cases we canyt rule out arson”.

President Mahama revealed that, he has tasked the security agencies to tighten security in the various markets to avert further fire outbreaks.

“We held meetings with the security heads today to see how we can tighten security around all the major markets in other to prevent any such occurrences. I have asked the security to arrange with the various security services to tighten security around major markets”.
