The First Vice President of the Ghana Union of Traders Associations (GUTA), Clement Boateng has urged the Gbese Mantse Nii Ayi-Bonte II to show compassion towards traders impacted by the recent fire at the Kantamanto Market.
He appealed to the paramount chief to permit traders to temporarily set up wooden structures to sustain their livelihoods while awaiting long-term redevelopment plans for the market.
This appeal comes after the Gbese Mantse issued a directive warning traders against rebuilding their stalls with wooden materials, as the market’s redevelopment is expected to be handed over to investors for proper reconstruction.
During a visit to traders, following a donation of GH¢40,000 from GUTA to the leadership of the Kantamanto Traders Association, Boateng emphasized the need to balance immediate relief for the traders with the vision for the market’s long-term development.
He also urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama to urgently support the Kantamanto traders upon his swearing-in as president on Tuesday, January 7, 2024.
He called for a collective effort to address the immediate needs of the affected traders while respecting the future development plans for the market.
