Kanewu-Adjei Kojo residents to hit the streets over access road blockade

Residents of Kanewu-Adjei Kojo in Tema West are planning a demonstration on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in response to an ongoing land sale near the Accra-Tema motorway.

They claim the land in question is their community’s only accessible route, and its sale could block their movement.

Assembly Member for Adjei Kojo, Charity Saimeh raised concern about the potential impact of the land deal, noting that closing off this road would leave residents unable to enter or exit the community. She called on authorities to step in and urged the developer to halt any construction on the land.

She also mentioned that the municipal office has been notified, and residents are prepared to take to the streets in protest.

In addition, Mamudu Bawre Sumalia, a member of the Bawumia Youth Team, stressed the importance of keeping the issue non-political.

He highlighted the residents’ right to access the road and warned that they would oppose any attempt to block it. He questioned what the community would do in the event of an emergency, as this is the only road connecting them to the main road. Sumalia emphasized that, despite his political affiliations, this is a community issue, not a political one.
