National Security Minister Kan Dapaah has warned that Ghana remains at risk of electoral violence, which has previously posed a significant threat to the country’s stability.
Speaking at the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference in Accra, Mr. Dapaah highlighted the need to take this threat seriously, as it could jeopardize the integrity of Ghana’s democracy, especially with the upcoming December 2024 elections.
During the SPI National Forum on Social Cohesion, Security, and Peaceful Elections in Accra, Mr. Dapaah expressed concern about the heightened stakes and fervent ambitions of the two major political parties.
He cautioned that statements from these parties could potentially incite violence on election day if one party loses. He emphasized that this situation tests the nation’s commitment to maintaining the peace Ghana currently enjoys.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability during electoral process highlighting instances where such violence has nearly torn the nation apart.
