Ghanaian winger Joseph Painstil made his MLS debut in the game between LA Galaxy and Inter Miami at the Dignity Health Sports Park.
The 26-year-old started the match and played for 86 minutes before being substituted for Daniel Aguirre.
He played a key role in setting up the opening goal for LA Galaxy by initiating the move that led to Marky Delgado assisting Dejan Joveljic.
Despite LA Galaxy being reduced to ten men shortly after, former Barcelona stars Jordi Alba and Lionel Messi combined to equalize for Inter Miami, marking Messi’s first goal of the season.
Earlier in the match, Riqui Puig, another former Barcelona player, had his penalty saved by Drake Callender.
Painstil joined LA Galaxy in February from KRC Genk on a four-year deal as a Designated Player.
