Ghanaian Actor turned Politician, John Dumelo has withdrawn from contesting in the upcoming Ayawaso West Wuogon primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to a statement from the constituency office of the party, Mr. Dumelo and another candidate, Ewoenam Y. A. Attidokpo, withdrew from the race “due to some personal reasons.”
Three persons however successfully filed their nomination by the close of the deadline on Saturday, 22 December 2018.
The three are Mr. Ekwow Acquah, Mr. Delali Kwasi Brempong and Madam Donna Selassie Agbo.
The NDC primary is scheduled for Friday, 28 December 2018.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency seat became vacant after the death of lawmaker Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko.
John Dumelo expressed interest in the seat after members of the opposition NDC in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency threw their weight behind the actor to contest as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the upcoming by-elections for the area.
According to the group, their decision was informed by Mr. Dumelo’s dedication and love for the party as well as his unique personality which they believe can capture power for the party in the elections.
