Jinapor urges Bawumia to tackle cedi depreciation instead of engaging in unnecessary debates

Bawumia to begin sensitization tour on Solar powered outboard motors in Tema on December 4

John Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, has called on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to prioritize addressing the depreciation of the Cedi to help reduce the rising fuel prices, rather than engaging in debates ahead of the December elections.

Jinapor’s remarks follow a recent increase in petroleum product prices.

In a recent discussion with journalists, the Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu criticized the government for causing financial losses to the state due to the ineffective implementation of the gold-for-oil policy, which was meant to curb the continuous rise in fuel prices.

“The managers of the economy have to sit up. And clearly, the Bank of Ghana is losing it. While the Bank of Ghana is spending millions of Cedis and dollars on the gold-for-oil programme, the currency is not stabilising.

He noted that, the cedi is depreciating, fuel prices are escalating, and the cost of living is soaring, leading to widespread hardship.

“Even worse, wages and salaries remain stagnant, failing to rise in response to the increasing expenses. The economy’s managers have lost their grip on the situation”.

“I believe Dr. Bawumia should prioritize managing the economy instead of pushing for a debate. He should focus on his responsibilities as head of the economic management team and address the escalating fuel costs,” Jinapor remarked.
