Special aide to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari has called for the resignation of Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), alleging incompetence and partisanship in the Commission’s management of the recent elections.
In a media interview, Mogtari voiced her disappointment with the EC’s performance and highlighted the urgency of comprehensive reforms to rebuild public confidence. She attributed the delay in announcing election results to the outbreak of violence witnessed across the country.
“I was thinking that the EC Chairperson was going to resign yesterday. Yes, absolutely, they have been incompetent to say the least. There are too many partisans there. The arm twisting, when the will of the people is up against you, there is nothing you can do”, she said.
Mogtari underscored the importance of a complete restructuring of the EC to restore credibility and safeguard the integrity of future elections.
