Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara has signaled his openness to seeking another term in the 2025 presidential election, though his party has yet to make a formal decision.
In an address to diplomats in Abidjan on Thursday, January 8, Ouattara stated, “I am in good health and eager to continue serving my country.” News outlets have described his remarks as the clearest indication yet of his potential candidacy.
The 83-year-old leader, who secured a controversial third term in 2020, had previously expressed a desire to step down. However, he has suggested that his decision may hinge on whether his longstanding political rivals also withdraw from politics.
While Ouattara’s party expressed support for another bid in September, no official announcement has been made.
