The mayor of Nabatiyeh has reportedly been enlisted among those killed in a recent Israeli strike on the municipality of the southern Lebanese city, authorities say.
According to reports, the strike, undertaken on Wednesday, was made on the municipality building which was set to hit Hezbollah targets in the Nabatieh area and dismantled underground infrastructure.
“The mayor of Nabatiyeh, among others… was martyred. It’s a massacre,” Nabatiyeh governor Howaida Turk said to reporters, adding that the mayor had been in the municipality building.
The strike came despite U.S. concerns about rising death tolls and fears of all-out war in the region as Israel battles Iran-backed Hezbollah in south Lebanon and in the capital Beirut and the Palestinian militants Hamas in Gaza.
Security sources have confirmed the death of five other persons who were in the target area and total confirmed deaths to six (6).
