The Interior Minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has instructed the Ashanti Regional Police Command to take immediate action against “Tinker Island,” a well-known drug den in the Kumasi metropolis.
This directive forms part of efforts to combat the growing problem of drug trafficking and abuse in the region.
“Tinker Island” has long been identified as a center for illegal drug trade, drawing in both dealers and users from across the city.
The area has been a major concern for both residents and law enforcement agencies due to its reputation and the criminal activities associated with it.
During a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the Interior Ministry stressed the serious threat posed by activities in the area, which have reportedly become more open and widespread.
Authorities noted that the illegal trade in the area has significantly contributed to the rise in drug-related crime and violence in Kumasi.
He has given the police a six-month deadline to dismantle the drug hub, criticizing past efforts that failed to rid the area of criminal activities.
