India evacuates hundreds of thousands, shuts down schools as Tropical Storm Dana nears

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings about the approaching Tropical Storm Dana, which is developing in the Bay of Bengal.

In response to the IMD’s warnings, Indian authorities have ordered the closure of schools and the cancellation of railway services. Thousands of residents in vulnerable areas are being evacuated under the supervision of rescue teams.

The IMD forecasts that the storm will intensify, with winds expected to reach 100-110 kph (62-68 mph) and gusts up to 120 kph (74 mph) as it moves towards India’s eastern coastline.

According to the Associated Press, Tropical Storm Dana is expected to make landfall in the eastern state of Odisha between late Thursday and early Friday. The storm poses a significant threat to the region’s residents.
