I’m glad Jordan Ayew joined Leicester City; I enjoy playing with him – Fatawu Issahaku

Black Stars winger Fatawu Issahaku has expressed his pride in sharing the dressing room with veteran striker Jordan Ayew, who joined him at Leicester City during the summer transfer window.

After spending six years at Crystal Palace, the Ghanaian striker moved to the Foxes, reuniting with his compatriot Issahaku in a move expected to strengthen the newly promoted side.

Following a few appearances together, both players are now back in Ghana on international duty, preparing for the Black Stars’ matches against Angola and Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

“He [Jordan Ayew] is always a senior player, and I love playing with him. He always guides and gives you more advice both on and off the pitch, so I’m happy. I think it’s going to be easier for me playing with him in both the national team and club,” Fatawu Issahaku said, as quoted by HappySports after the team’s first training session in Accra on Tuesday.

Issahaku and Ayew have been key players in Ghana’s recent matches. The former Dreams FC winger assisted Jordan Ayew’s winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Mali during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The 20-year-old later scored in the next match against the Central African Republic (CAR), while Ayew stole the show with a hat-trick, leading Ghana to a 4-3 victory in Kumasi.

Issahaku is hopeful for more thrilling performances as he and Ayew continue to share the field regularly.

“Before I heard he was coming [to Leicester City], I spoke with him and I was happy. It was amazing. Now, I’m happy to have another brother in my team, and as we always do in the national team, we are going to do it more at Leicester City as well,” the Leicester City Young Player of the Year added.

Ghana will host Angola on September 5 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium before traveling to Morocco to face Niger on Monday, September 9, 2024. Head coach Otto Addo will be looking to build on the team’s previous victories in June to kick off the qualifiers on a strong note.

The team has departed Accra for Kumasi to continue with preparations.
