President Nana Akufo-Addo has indicated that he will vote for a New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential candidate who he believes can inflict a third successive defeat on John Dramani Mahama.
In a recent tweet from his official Twitter handle, he expressed his determination to support an NPP candidate who can secure victory in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
He further explained that his primary focus is to select an aspirant who possesses the ability to unite the Party effectively, but most importantly, one who can secure a resounding victory against the NDC and John Dramani Mahama in the presidential election scheduled for 7th December 2024.
“I have just one vote, the same as any polling station executive anywhere in the country, and I will cast that vote for an aspirant who, I believe, can best unite the Party, and, above all, who can win the presidential election of 7th December 2024, and inflict a third successive defeat on the perennial NDC Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama,” the tweet read.
The post has sparked intrigue and speculation within the political landscape of Ghana. As the country eagerly awaits the 2024 elections, some believe that the President’s endorsement could significantly influence the selection process within the NPP. It also sets the stage for an intense and closely contested electoral battle between the NPP and the NDC.
The presidential hopefuls for the NPP include Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; former Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Alan Kyerematen, energy expert, Mr Kwadwo Opoku, former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko and, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
Others include former General Secretary of the NPP, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, former Minister of State, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Mr Joe Ghartey and Mr Francis Addai-Nimoh, former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong, Ashanti.
