Accra Representative and a management member of Kumasi based club Asante Kotoko, Nana Kwame Dankwah has disagreed with the team’s [Kotoko] Head coach over his comment after their painful exit from the CAF Champions League.
Asante Kotoko coach Kjetil Zachariassen played down the significance of their CAF Champions League exit at the hands of Etoile Du Sahel.
“This [CAF Confederation Cup] is our level at the moment. We are in Confederation Cup, I think that’s the right level for us,” Coach Zachariassen said in an interview.
But speaking on Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports with Ohene Brenya Bampoe, Nana Kwame Dankwah said “I totally disagree with our head coach for saying that champions league is not our level. I had a word with him after he had made that comments and he explained what he actually meant. It is unfortunate that has become a topic for discussion but I think we should all take the blame not just him.”
“I am having sleepless nights because I don’t know what I will tell our supporters. Looking at the investment level, I am pleading with the supporters to pardon the coach maybe his way and level of understanding things is totally different from our,” he added.
He therefore advised the coach to do the honorable thing by apologizing to fans. “If I was him, I will just come out and apologize to everyone for saying that but I can’t tell him to do that. Even before we left Ghana, he said he is going for a win so how can you be aiming at a win against a team that you think it’s not your level.”
The Porcupine Warriors had a 2-0 advantage from the first leg in Kumasi but collapsed to a shocking 3-0 defeat in the return fixture in Tunisia on Sunday.
A result which meant the Ghana Premier League giants dropped to the CAF Confederation Cup playoff stage.
