President of New Edubiase United Abdul Salam Yakubu says he was nearly attacked at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday because of his criticism of the Kurt Okraku led-Ghana Football Association administration.
Abdul Salam recently criticized the unfair and poor selection of players to the national U-20 side the Black Satellites of Ghana during their participation in the WAFU U-20 tournament held in Benin.
According to the New Edubiase United president, any player linked to George Afriyie or from his camp were dropped from the team.
Abdul Salam is of the view that some people who owe allegiance to the GFA president were behind this attack.
Narrating his ordeal in an interview on Happy Sports on Happy 98.9FM on the supposed attack at the Accra Sports Stadium during Hearts of Oak versus Bechem United game, he said, “I was at the stadium to watch Hearts vs Bechem and I saw the Greater Accra Regional Football Association, Chairman. I extended my hand to greet Katarrh and he hit my hand.
“He told me I am always insulting Kurt Okraku and speaking nonsense on the radio so I shouldn’t greet him. I don’t even have any issue with Kurt Okraku so I decided to retaliate but some Hearts fans came around to separate us.
“I was watching the game when Hearts of Oak fan, Atalawu came to warn me that I shouldn’t leave after the game because some macho men are downstairs waiting to beat me after the game. I honestly thought he was joking but he and other people told me someone in Dreams FC and Kurt Okraku camp told the boys to beat me up. I was shocked because that person is my brother and friend”
“I totally forgot about the boys downstairs waiting to beat me. The moment I got down, the boys started rushing me but luckily for me, some Hearts fans came to my rescue”
“I was pushed into a car to protect myself because the boys were furious ready to beat me because I spoke against the current administration”, he concluded.
Abdul Salam who was with former Ghana Football Association Vice President George Afriyie also phoned in during the show to confirm what the New Edubiase United president had said.
