I prefer live band to DJs – Ex Doe

Richard Kwasi Siaw Afrofi, popularly known in the hiplife movement as Ex Doe, has asserted that stage performances backed by a DJ are more difficult and less entertaining as compared to performances done with a live band.

In an interview on the Late Nite Celebrity Show, he told host, Foster Romanus that the young artistes’ type of music is ‘raw’ and added they need to go back and learn so that people can enjoy their songs more.

He commented that any proper musician should be able to handle a music group, stand in before millions of people to perform with other musicians, not only singers, but instrumentalists as well. But our new artistes are limited to performing with DJs.

Ex Doe clarified that music does not only have to do with vocals but mostly instrumentations hence the modernized way of compiling music only on the computer without the use of real instruments, is killing the talent of instrumentalists and is killing the true art of music.

He said, ‘’Even performing with a band is a whole art and to me, I will not get tired if I perform with a band because I can sing and even relax and the band will still go with me or play a key that will make me comfortable. But performing with a DJ is more difficult. That is why people get stressed during performances and they end up miming.’’

He advised that playbacks are good for studio performances but concerts must be lively and more entertaining than the actual music, therefore, artistes should opt for live band rather than DJ during concerts and huge crowd performances so that they don’t end up miming and their fans can enjoy versatility in their performances.
