I nearly lost my seat because of my fight against galamsey-Member of Parliament for Aowin constituency

The member of Parliament for Aowin constituency, Oscar Ofori Larbi has revealed the his advocacy against illegal mining nearly led to his defeat in the 2024 general elections.

According to him, illegal mining in his area is something that he has vehemently opposed as member of member parliament and for this reason he directed the military to visit the area and drive away all miners operating illegally.

Responding to allegations levelled against him by the Aowin Traditional Council that he is involved in illegal mining, Oscar Ofori Larbi denied the allegations claiming that the council just wants to tanish his image because he did not honour their invitation when he was summoned before the Traditional Council.

He stressed that the claim by the Traditional Council that he brought men from the northern part of Ghana to actively engage in illegal mining is completely false and he was even surprised because the same men the traditional council claimed to be northerners are party members who were introduced to the illegal mining taskforce by the traditional authorities themselves.

“I nearly lost my seat because of my advocacy against galamsey” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Nkwanta and a member of the Aowin Traditional Council, Nana Ntow is accusing the MP of being involved in galamsey saying, the MP had formed a galamsy squad and hired thugs from northern Ghana to carry out mining activities in the Tano Anwia Reserve.
