Asante Kotoko legend, Rev. Osei Kofi has said that he would have been dead by now if he had left the club to join English side Stoke City in 1969.
According to him, though the £30,000 offer from Stoke City and the prospect of playing in England would have changed his life, he couldn’t refuse the order of the late Asantehene Otumfuo Opoku Ware I.
He said Wilberforce Mfum had already left the club to the USA and so he did the right thing rejecting the offer to please Otumfuo Opoku Ware I, Mr. B.M. Kuffour, and Mr. B.K. Adu Sei.
“I met Otumfuo, the late Opoku Ware, Mr. B.M. Kuffour, and Mr. B.K. Adu Sei. These three elderly people called me. At the time, Mfum had left for the USA. He was offered $5,000, which was a lot, but mine was £30,000.”
“A young boy like me, how do I tell Opoku Ware, Mr. B.M. Kuffour, and Mr. B.K. Adu Sei that I’m leaving? I would’ve been dead by now,” Rev Osei Kofi said.
