Ghanaian highlife legend, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, has stated that highlife music still has immense value in the music industry.
According to him, highlife music is the basis of all dance music in the world hence, “it can never fade off.”
In an exclusive interview with Rev Nyansa Boakwa on Happy 98.9FM’s ‘Nsem Pii’, he said, “Highlife is the tree and the other types of music are the branches. So, every song we sing has a bit of highlife in it including music produced from outside Ghana. Highlife gave birth to all of them.”
The legend stated that Ghana musicians of today are imitating other artistes from other countries “and not sticking to what is duly ours.
You’re an imitator and the only way to change the narrative is by infusing our highlife and other genre we want to sing. This will make it unique and slightly different from theirs else, we will keep imitating them,” he opined.
