Minority Chief Whip and MP for Banda, Ibrahim Ahmed, has voiced concern regarding the loss of seasoned lawmakers following the NPP parliamentary primaries.

He fears that the exit of experienced legislators will adversely affect the technical capacity of Parliament.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, outside the Chamber ahead of the commencement of the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 8th Parliament, Mr. Ahmed emphasized the importance of serious introspection within political parties concerning the significant attrition rate of MPs.

Eighteen(18) members from the majority side have formally announced their decision not to seek re-election. Among them are notable figures such as Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the longest-serving MP on the majority bench representing Suame, First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu, Kennedy Agyapong, Samuel Atta Akyea and several others.

Unfortunately, many factors contribute to this decision, including intense competition and the presence of opponents.
