Every now and then a new piece of technology is introduced to consumers but I look out for always is solutions the innovation provide, benefits of having that new gadget and how functional it is considering my daily routine.
One of these innovations is HMD Global’s Nokia 8 which was launched at the annual Mobile World Congress 2018 in February.
I finally laid my hands on the all new Nokia 8 and I must admit HMD Global delivered on several levels in their quest to make a premium device which is affordable and functional.
At a hung out a few days ago, When Olumide Balogun; Head of Marketing of HMD Global said “Premium doesn’t have to be expensive” I was wondering how that was possible but after using the Nokia 8 on and off the job I now understand and appreciate his statement more.
The Nokia 8 as the ‘flagship’ smartphone packs a 5.3in QHD LCD display, and under the hood, you’ll find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, which can be expanded via microSD. There’s also a 3,090mAh battery, which HMD claims will get you more than a full day of usage, complete with support for Quick Charge 3.0

The coolest feature of the Nokia 8 I must admit is the Bothie feature because as a reporter, I believe my audience deserved more angles of every story to get better perspective. The Bothie feature allows you to take two angled videos simultaneously because it activates both the front and rear cameras to capture photos and videos.
The Nokia 8 unlike many offerings on the market allows you to share multiple video clips in single Instagram post which most android smart phones don’t allow. This allows me to post all videos from an interview in a single post which allows our audience to watch several videos in a single post. You are able to mix videos and photos in a single post too and that obviously gives a spark to an Instagram feed.
The Nokia 8 does not get warm even when in heavy use. I manage several social media pages across all the networks and I must confess, the amount of interaction that goes-on on these pages undoubtedly made my previous devices warmer by the hour. HMD Global in their effort to keep the Snapdragon 835 platform from overheating when you are in Bothie mode built a cooling system to prevent the device from warming up.
Organize all your personal apps you download from Google Playstore in one location which you easily assess with just a left swipe. Nokia 8 also gathers all apps downloaded from playstore in one location which makes it easy to access and leaves the search app bar redundant.
15 minutes of charge gives you 50% battery life for those on the go. You have 2 days of battery life if you charge to 100% because the phone is good with adjusting the display light and stops apps from running in back to prolong battery life.
Nokia 8 gives you option to go live on Facebook or YouTube when you turn on video mode in camera. Till I laid my hands on the Nokia 8, I had to through several clicks to broadcast live but with the Nokia 8, you open camera and you get an option to go live on Facebook or YouTube!
