Herbert Mensah elected President of Rugby Africa

The President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, Herbert Mensah, has been elected as the President of the World Rugby’s African Association, at the Annual General Meeting of the Association on Saturday 18th March, 2023 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Mr. Mensah will run the affairs of Rugby Africa for the next four years.

The former Asante Kotoko chairman and renowned businessman takes over from Khalid.

This is the first time in the history of Rugby Africa that the position was contested in an election. Herbert Mensah polled 30 votes to beat his main contender George Owuo from Uganda who had just one vote.

In 2014, Herbert Mensah took charge of the Ghana Rugby Football Union, where he increased awareness around the sport while injecting much needed enthusiasm for players and officials, as well as encouraging the youth to participate in Rugby through numerous initiatives and activities.

He was instrumental in spearheading the national team’s qualification to the World Series, after they won the West Africa competition, before moving on to the African championship.
