The UEFA Champions League, arguably the biggest club competition in the world bounces back next month and below is a list of Ghanaian players who will be competing for their respective clubs.
Mohammed Kudus- Ajax
Mohammed Kudus will be playing in the competition in his third season with Ajax in this campaign.
The 22-year-old had a blistering start to the competition in his debut against Liverpool last two seasons. Unfortunately, his debut ended in a sorrowful note as the Ghana international played last than 10 minutes before injury ruled him out of the competition in the 2020/21 season. Kudus has struggled with injuries since then.
Mohammed Kudus returned to the competition for the 2021/22 season where he made two appearances before Ajax were eliminated from the competition.
Ahead of the draw tonight, Ajax will be hoping to get a favorable group in order to qualify to the knockout staged. Mohammed Kudus has been linked with a move away from the club in the ongoing transfer window. According to reports the Ghana midfielder is in search of more play time but Champions League football may see him stay at the Johann Cruyff Arena this season.
Ajax have been paired against Liverpool, Napoli and Rangers in Group A
Kamal Sowah- Club Brugge
The Ghana midfielder has been given a lifeline under new coach Carl Hoefkens since rejoining the club from his loan spell last season.
The former Leicester City midfielder was on loan to AZ Alkmaar last season after struggling for game time under former coach Alfred Schreuder.
The 22-year-old made 17 appearances and played five Champions League games after joining the Belgian side from Leicester City.
The 22-year-old made five appearances in the 2021/22 Champions League for Club Brugge.
Leicester City player rejoined his teammates for pre-season after spending the second half of last season on loan at AZ Alkmaar.
Kamal Sowah has made five appearances in the ongoing campaign and is expected to feature prominently in the Champions League this season.
Club Brugge are in Group A alongside FC Porto, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen
Dennis Odoi- Club Brugge
The former Fulham defender will be making his first appearance in the UEFA Champions League since the 2012/13 season with Club Brugge.
The 33-year-old last played in the competition with Anderlecht and recorded four appearances in the competition.
Club Brugge are in Group A alongside FC Porto, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku- Sporting Lisbon
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku may get the opportunity to play in Europe’s biggest competition this season.
The Ghana youth star has recorded some game time in the Portuguese league in the ongoing campaign.
The 18-year-old has two appearances for Sporting and is likely to get a substitute role for the team in this competition should he continue to impress.
Sporting will engage Frankfurt, Tottenham and Marseille in Group D
Angsnar Knauff – Frankfurt
The German-Ghana forward has experience in the competition making six appearances with Dortmund. He will be making his first appearance for the Europa League winners this season.
The 20-year-old last played in the competition in the 2021/22 season.
Frankfurtt have been paired in Group D against Tottenham, Marseille and Sporting.
Callum Hudson-Odoi – Chelsea
The 21-year-old has been linked with a move away from the club in the ongoing transfer window. Hudson-Odoi has won the title with Chelsea in the 2020/21 season after defeating Manchester City in the finals.
He made seven appearances that season for The Blues. The English-born Ghanaian forward has been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen.
Chelsea have been drawn in Group E alongside AC Milan, Salzburg and Dinamo Zagreb
