Asante Kotoko secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League’s Super Clash, notching their fourth consecutive win and strengthening their title contender status. Despite Hearts of Oak playing as the home team at Kotoko’s Baba Yara Stadium, the Porcupine Warriors showcased superior finishing, sealing the win.
In the 37th minute, Hearts of Oak took the lead with Linda Mtange’s elegant header from Ibrahim Salifu’s well-placed free kick. Kotoko swiftly responded, as Isaac Oppong leveled the score just before halftime with a clinical finish. The second half saw Kotoko seize control, with Steven Mukwala controversially scoring in the 55th minute and later securing his brace in the 65th minute. Despite Martin Karikari pulling one back for Hearts of Oak, Kotoko held on for the win.
This victory places Kotoko four points behind league leaders Aduana FC, who suffered an unexpected loss to Nations FC earlier in the day. Hearts of Oak, however, slid further down the table, trailing Kotoko by six points and increasing pressure on interim coach Rahim Bashiru.
In other Sunday matches, Nsoatreman missed a chance to top the table, losing 1-0 at home to Karela United.
