Former Ghana Premier League legend Mohammed Polo has come to the defense of Hearts of Oak’s head coach, Martin Koopman, amidst growing pressure on the Dutch trainer. The Phobians appointed Koopman on a year deal as the head coach of the club prior to the start of the football season, but he has faced intense scrutiny after recording just one win in four games.
“I would urge all the supporters to be patient with the coach,” Polo emphasized during an exclusive interview on Happy FM. “What he needs now is their support. He needs time. If he can’t change things around, then they should let him go. Looking at the team, it is full of youthful players, and I’m sure they would not want to replicate what happened last season when they were almost relegated. Let’s give them time.”
The sole victory for Hearts of Oak came against Nsoatreman FC, with Ramos Kashala scoring the only goal for the side. However, in the matchday four games, Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw against Dreams FC at the Accra Sports Stadium, leaving them languishing in the 16th position on the Premier League log.
With mounting pressure on Coach Koopman and his squad, they are now gearing up for a crucial matchday five fixture against Heart of Lions at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope. Hearts of Oak will be eager to return to winning ways and climb the league standings.
Following the Heart of Lions clash, Hearts of Oak will host FC Samartex before embarking on a challenging away game against Bibiani Gold Stars at DUN’s Park. The coming weeks will be a significant test for Koopman and his charges as they seek to turn their season around and prove their mettle in the Ghana Premier League.
