Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, is expected to appear before Parliament today, February 18, to address the House on the country’s ongoing public health emergencies.
This follows a request by Minority Leader and Efutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who raised concern over recent outbreaks of cholera and cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) in various parts of Ghana.
In response First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor, officially summoned the Health Minister to update Parliament on efforts to contain the diseases and protect the public.
Mr. Akandoh is expected to present a detailed report on the outbreaks, outlining government interventions and strategies to mitigate their impact on affected communities.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin, whose constituency is among cholera has expressed doubts about the effectiveness of current containment measures and called for urgent action.
Ahead of his briefing, Mr. Akandoh has conducted field visits to assess the situation in affected regions. He visited the Western, Greater Accra, and Central Regions to evaluate the cholera outbreak and the Upper West Region to inspect the meningitis crisis.
