Hasaacas Ladies miss Women Champions League qualification despite 6-1 victory in final group game

Ghanaian champions, Hasaacas Ladies, fell short in their quest to secure a spot in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, despite a dominant 6-1 win in their final group match.

Hasaacas secured an emphatic victory over Niger’s AS Garde National in their last Group B game on Saturday afternoon. However, this victory was not enough to push them into the semifinals, as they were edged out by Omnisports Etincelle, who advanced due to a superior goal difference. Both teams finished the group stage with four points each, but Omnisports had the upper hand in the tiebreaker.

The match started promisingly for Hasaacas, with Fatoumata Tamboura opening the scoring just over 20 minutes into the game. The lead was quickly extended by Grace Animah and Comfort Owusu, bringing the score to 3-0. AS Garde managed to pull one back before halftime, but Hasaacas were undeterred.

After the break, Comfort Owusu struck again, restoring Hasaacas’ three-goal cushion. Despite creating several chances, the Ghanaian side struggled to capitalize on them. In stoppage time, goals from Grace Animah and Abigail Sakyiwaa sealed the 6-1 victory.

However, this impressive performance was bittersweet. To advance, Hasaacas needed to win by at least six goals to surpass Omnisports, who had lost 1-0 to Nigeria’s Edo Queens earlier in the day. Unfortunately, Hasaacas fell just short of the mark.

With their Champions League hopes dashed, the Takoradi-based team will now shift their focus back to domestic competitions.
