The Member of Parliament for Tamale South Constituency, Haruna Iddrisu, has expressed confidence in President-elect John Dramani Mahama to limit his administration to only sixty(60) ministers as promised in the NDC’s 2024 manifesto.
This pledge, made during Mahama’s campaign, according to him is part of his plan to protect public resources.
During the launch of the NDC’s manifesto on August 24 in the Central Region, President-elect, Mr. Mahama outlined measures to safeguard the public purse, including abolishing the payment of ex-gratia and reducing waste in government.
Meanwhile, the former Minority Leader in the Eighth Parliament of Ghana, Haruna Iddrisu speaking to the media on Monday, December 16, ahead of Parliament’s sitting, the legislator emphasized that Mr. Mahama would honor this promise. He outlined a potential structure for the administration, suggesting it could consist of 23 ministers, 19 cabinet ministers, and 16 regional ministers, amounting to approximately 54-58 ministers.
He explained that this approach is driven by Mr. Mahama’s desire to protect public resources and reduce unnecessary government spending on salaries, facilities, and other ministerial privileges.
