As part of its responsibilities to inform, educate and entertain its cherished listeners, Happy 98.9 FM will be broadcasting the 2020 Budget reading live from Parliament on Wednesday 13th November, 2019.
The 2020 Budget is expected to outline the programs and activities of government’s macroeconomic policy statement to Parliament and the general public.
The reading of the budget is in accordance with the Public Financial Management Act, 921, 2016 and with regulation 152 (2) of the Financial Administration Regulations, that the Minister of Finance Kenneth Ofori Attah will present the 2020 Budget to the Parliament of Ghana.
Explaining the reasons for the station’s decision to carry the budget presentation live; Programmes Manager of Happy FM, Mr. Emmanuel Akrumah said:
‘’Governments are accountable to their citizens for what they do and how they do it. Accountability means, in part, that the policies and plans that a government develops should reflect the priorities and needs of the people.”
This idea is as true of government budgets as of any other of the government’s policy and planning documents.
Having access to key budget documents, the Pre-Budget Statement; the Executive’s Budget Proposal; the Enacted Budget; In-Year, Mid-Year, and Year-End Reports; as well as the Audit Report is essential for people to be able to develop a full and clear picture of how their government is raising and spending public money.
And Happy FM is carrying out its core function as a media organisation of providing a link between the government and the people’’ he stated.
He also mentioned that seasoned economic brains will analyse the merits and demerits of the 2020 budget after the reading. To give listeners an in-depth understanding of the budget and its implication for the country.
‘’It is not only the budget reading that we will bring to our cherished listeners, there will be a panel discussion before and after the budget reading. So I am encouraging the general public to tune in to ‘Epa hoa daben’ political show on Wednesday for the live coverage’’ he said
