Happy FM, Ghana’s leading radio station with community engagement and social responsibility at the core of its mandate has brought to a successful end its first ever clean-up exercise in collaboration with the association of HappyFM listeners.
The clean-up exercise dubbed ‘Happy World Clean-Up Day’ which was held as part of the station’s commemoration of the global World Sanitation Day, came off on Saturday, September 18, 2021, around the locality of Happy98.9FM, Asylum Down. With media resources at its disposal, Happy98.9FM charged the activation, calling on citizens near and far to join in the exercise and of course, the association of Happy FM listeners did not disappoint.
By 6am on the D-day, the premises of Happy FM was filled with hundreds of people ready with their tools to go on the cleaning spree. Persons who could join the team also did as was encouraged, and took ‘before and after’ pictures of their surroundings as they also joined from their own homes and vicinities.
Assemblyman for the Korle Klottey municipality, Eric Doe who was actively involved in the clean up exercise praised Happy98.9FM for undertaking such an initiative as he intimated that such corporate-community exercises go a long way in promoting healthy relationships.
“HappyFM has changed our perspective of corporate Ghana. We are impressed by the initiative and believe this exercise will be institutionalised,” he added.
Programmes Manager for the brand, Elwoode Mantey, speaking after the climax of the exercise, said, “The turn out of events here at Asylum down today has been massive and we are thankful to everyone who showed up, both staff of Happy FM and residents of Asylum down and it’s environs. Showing up here today to support this cause goes a long way to prove that Ghanaians are ever ready to better the country and that was fulfilling to see. Other people also joined us randomly as they saw us cleaning their vicinities and that is the definition of true patriotism”.
Mr. Mantey promised that with support from the Korley Klottey Municipal Assembly, Happy98.9FM will champion this campaign all year round and, devoting its online and social media platforms to educate and engender the Ghanaian populace to buy into and support the clean Ghana agenda. He also urged listeners to always remember that sanitation is not a one-day affair but an unending process with dedication and consistency as the sustenance factor.
The Happy World Clean-Up Day which was organized by Happy98.9FM on September 18 was geared at keeping Ghana clean, and ridding communities of diseases. This exercise was supported by Ghana Planeteers.
