Ghana’s leading sports station, Happy98.9 FM and the nation’s No.1 Youth and Urban station; YFM have officially launched their coverage of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The launch, held at the Accra Tourist Information Center on December 13th, 2023 sought to expose the stations’ listeners on radio, followers on digital media and all other stakeholders on content campaigns and their creative conceptualization as the tournament commencement date approaches.
Sports enthusiasts and supporters alike were assured of in-depth analysis from the Happy Sports team known for their creative and fact based commentary in addition to renowned coaches, ex-players and football analysts confirmed as guests for the station’s coverage. Additionally, a 34 – day count down with historical facts and data commenced on the 10th of December in line with next year’s AFCON being the 34th edition.
Among the concepts presented to participants include the Daily Trivia’s, Sports Quiz focused on AFCON, Women analyst segment, Tip of the Day and selected viewings.

AFCON 2023 is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024, in Ivory Coast, where 24 teams will vie for the prestigious continental title. This marks the second time the Africa Cup of Nations finals will be organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Côte d’Ivoire.
In the group stage, the Black Stars of Ghana are set to face formidable opponents, including record champions Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde.
The tournament, consisting of 52 matches, will be hosted in five cities: Abidjan, Yamoussoukro, Bouaké, San-Pedro, and Korhogo. To further enhance the fan experience, Happy 98.9 FM will be reporting live from all these locations.
